Origin Story

The love of great music was seeded early for Wax Bin inventor, Fred. When other moms sang nursery rhymes, Fred’s mom played jazz records. When he was old enough to ride a bike, Fred rode his to the record store to browse for treasures. But storage of his growing collection was an issue in those early years. He wanted to spend his money on music, not furniture. So, Fred used milk crates (clumsy), or stacked his records sideways on a shelf (difficult to browse), or put them in an old trunk (too big, bulky, and stinky).

Fred grew up in Michigan and became an engineer in the automotive industry. It's a career that connected him with world-class designers, manufacturers, and packaging experts. In parallel, he's grown his collection to over 1,000 albums. They rest in record store-worthy wooden bins he designed and built himself.

But Fred knows it’s rare to have the time and skill to recreate a record store bin. He’s seen the astronomical prices charged online for ready-made options. He feels for record collectors who love their wax but aren’t prepared to shell out hundreds for the furniture to store them.

It’s in this gap between need and affordability that Fred found the inspiration for Wax Bin. Drawing on his expertise and connections in manufacturing, he's recreated the record store bin in an accessible package. Because everyone’s vinyl deserves it.
